Viking's CompactFlash is currently the world's smallest removable data storage system based on flash technology. CompactFlash cards are about one third the size of a Type II card and 40% the thickness, and offer complete PCMCIA-ATA functionality and compatibility. Like their Type II counterparts, they are rugged, consume low power, are transportable, and can link numerous different types of electronic devices. CompactFlash standards are currently set by the CompactFlash Association, of which Viking is a member. CompactFlash cards require an adapter, also available from Viking, to fit into a Type II slot.
The great advantage of Viking Flash memory is its compatibility in so many portable environments. For example, by using a Viking Flash card in a digital camera, the user can store up to hundreds of photos (number dependent upon capacity of flash card and resolution of photos), then remove the card from the digital camera to a hand-held PC or laptop, and from there view, manipulate, alter, delete, print, or simply store the pictures.
